United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres appointed Rabab Fatima of Bangladesh as his new Special Representative for Afghanistan and Head of the International — United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), effective July 15, 2026. Fatima, a career diplomat with over 30 years of experience, succeeds Roza Otunbayeva of Kyrgyzstan.
