The commissioning of the aluminium foil facility and upcoming FRP plant are expected to enhance Shyam Metalics' product mix and margins, potentially boosting its stock performance. The expansion aligns with India's push for self-reliance in downstream aluminium, reducing import dependency and supporting domestic manufacturing.
Shyam Metalics and Energy Limited Limited, through its step-down subsidiary Shyam Metalics and Energy Limited — SMEL Steel Structural Pvt. Ltd., has commenced commercial production at its new aluminium foil facility in Sambalpur, India — Odisha. The plant has an installed capacity of 18,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) and manufactures premium-grade foils in the thickness range of 6 to 40 microns. The company has invested around ₹800 crore in downstream aluminium facilities at Sambalpur, including a 60,000 TPA Aluminium Flat Rolled Products (FRP) plant that is on track for commercial launch by September 2026. The expansion is part of Shyam Metalics' product diversification strategy to increase its presence in value-added aluminium products, reduce import dependence, and support India's Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Management expects the downstream aluminium business to improve operating margins by 40-50% and drive revenue growth of 2x to 2.5x. The company's shares rose over 2% on the announcement, with market capitalization near ₹30,000 crore.
