The funding signals strong investor confidence in Alpaca's role as infrastructure for tokenized and AI-driven financial services. It may accelerate the convergence of traditional and on-chain markets, potentially increasing competition among brokerage API providers.
Alpaca, a brokerage infrastructure provider, raised $135 million in equity led by Peak XV Partners, with participation from Elefund, Opera Tech Ventures (BNP Paribas Group's venture arm), and Unbound. The total financing package is $435 million, including $300 million in debt from Payward (Kraken's parent) and BMO. Alpaca plans to expand its agent-first brokerage and API-based prime brokerage infrastructure for tokenized markets and AI-native financial services. The company has over $1.5 billion in assets under custody for tokenized equities, doubled revenue year-over-year for three consecutive years, and grown monthly active API users nearly fourfold in six months. Alpaca has also expanded internationally by acquiring regulated entities in India, the UK, and Europe, and passporting across 30 EEA countries.
