The Nigeria — Nigerian Ports Authority (FAAN) has announced the introduction of V-Pass, a biometric facial recognition system for domestic airports. The system allows passengers to verify their identity through facial recognition after a one-time enrolment, reducing reliance on physical ID documents and shortening queues via automated e-gates. FAAN states the platform complies with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and is part of its digital transformation program. The initiative follows Federal Government approval in April 2026, with infrastructure deployment by Verxid Technologies Limited. FAAN officials, including Director of Commercial and Business Development Adebola Agunbiade and Director of Public Affairs Henry Agbebire, have highlighted benefits for security and passenger experience. The rollout timeline and sensitization campaign are yet to be announced.
