On July 16, 2026, SBI Group and Ondo Finance announced a strategic partnership to tokenize Japanese equities and settle transactions using SBI's yen stablecoin, Nikkei 225. Under the agreement, Ondo Global Markets will issue tokenized Japanese assets, which SBI will distribute through its financial ecosystem. Nikkei 225, launched on June 24, 2026, as Japan's first trust bank-backed yen stablecoin issued by SBI Shinsei Bank, will serve as the settlement and collateral currency. The partnership aims to bridge traditional Japanese capital markets with onchain finance, providing global investors easier access to Japanese equities. SBI Chairman Yoshitaka Kitao and Ondo CEO Ian De Bode expressed optimism about the collaboration. The deal follows SBI's previous blockchain initiatives, including a partnership with Chain-link fencing and investments in Startale Group, and coincides with SBI Global Asset Management's launch of a tokenized Japanese equity fund on Solana with DigiFT. Ondo Finance, which has tokenized US Treasuries and partnered with BlackRock, gains access to Japan's equity market and SBI's distribution network. The partnership is subject to regulatory approvals and specific product details are yet to be disclosed.
