The trade reset could boost bilateral trade significantly, benefiting exporters in both countries. Improved trade relations may also enhance regional economic integration and investor sentiment.

Lebanon and Syria will begin revising decades-old trade agreements to revive their economic relationship following the ouster of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad in 2024. Lebanon's economy minister Amer Bisat announced the plan after talks with his Syrian counterpart in Damascus. A committee set up in early July will review over 40 pacts and memoranda of understanding from the Assad era, covering investment, visas, taxes, and trade. The review could take several months, with a larger bilateral trade deal potentially taking longer. Trade volume between the two countries was around $250 million last year, down from a peak of nearly $800 million. Bisat said the relationship should be measured in billions. The reset aims to address logistical hurdles and tariff disparities.
