An international team led by Hiroshima University developed a method to detect early-stage collagen damage in human skin by measuring supramolecular chirality loss before visible fiber degradation. Published in ACS Nano on July 16, 2026, the study combined advanced optical imaging and chiroptical spectroscopy to reveal that collagen's molecular organization deteriorates prior to thinning or fragmentation. The findings could enable earlier intervention in skin aging, wound healing, and biomaterial design.
