Canada-Pakistan bilateral visit and agreements

Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand visited Pakistan from July 20-21, 2026, marking the first bilateral visit by a Canadian foreign minister in nearly 20 years. During the visit, Anand met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The two countries agreed to expand cooperation in trade, investment, security, and development. Canada announced over $47 million in assistance, including $2.2 million for security cooperation and $45 million for development projects. A protocol on phytosanitary regulations for Canadian canola imports was signed. Both sides agreed to institutionalize annual meetings and expedite negotiations on a Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPPA). Discussions also covered regional issues, including Afghanistan, Jammu and Kashmir, and the Indus Waters Treaty.
