India and Spain have agreed to accelerate technical discussions on linking India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) with Spain's Bizum digital payments platform, aiming to enable cross-border digital transactions. The agreement was reached during Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal's visit to Spain as part of a four-nation European tour from July 13 to 18, 2026. Goyal held talks with Spanish officials Carlos Cuerpo and Jordi Hereu, proposing an annual India-Spain Joint Commission meeting and a '10x10x10' vision to boost bilateral trade, investment, and tourism tenfold over the next decade. Both sides identified collaboration opportunities in automobiles, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, and infrastructure. Discussions also covered investment facilitation, mobility of professionals, and joint investments in Latin America. In Brussels, Goyal co-chaired the 3rd India-EU Trade and Technology Council meeting, where India raised issues including listing of ship recycling yards and proposed an India-EU dialogue on skills and talent mobility. In Finland, Goyal met Acting Prime Minister Riikka Purra and Minister Sakari Puisto to discuss cooperation in AI, 6G, quantum technologies, and clean energy.
