The MoU signals increased government focus on securing critical mineral supply chains, which may benefit related sectors. However, the impact is limited as it is a non-binding agreement with no immediate financial commitments.
GAIL (India) (India) Limited and Khanij Bidesh India (KABIL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on July 17, 2026, to collaborate on critical and strategic minerals. The MoU establishes a framework for identifying and evaluating opportunities, exchanging technical expertise, capacity building, and exploring joint initiatives across the mining value chain. This partnership aims to strengthen India's long-term resource security and support the clean energy transition. KABIL is a joint venture under the Ministry of Mines, formed by NALCO, Hindustan Copper, and MECL. GAIL (India) is a Maharatna public sector enterprise under the India — Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. The signing was attended by senior officials including Sanjeev Kumar, Sunil Kumar Singh, and Ashok Singhal. A May 2026 note by IEEFA and CSI highlighted the need for significant investment in critical minerals supply chain.
