On July 16-17, 2026, two United States — United States Forest Service employees were taken hostage at gunpoint and zip-tied by Joseph Charles Henrichsen and his adult son Phoenix Henrichsen in the United States — Shasta–Trinity National Forest near Gumboot Lake, California. The suspects demanded to speak with the FBI. A multi-agency response involving the FBI, Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office, and other local, state, and federal agencies led to negotiations that lasted over 15 hours.
