The India — India, through the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, has commissioned a demonstration network using White Rabbit precision timing technology to distribute a secure, tamper-resistant national time signal. The network was launched by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi at the India — Regional Reference Standard Laboratory in Bengaluru, a joint project with United Kingdom — National Physical Laboratory and India — ISRO. The system disseminates Indian Standard Time traceable to UTC (NPLI) using Precision Time Protocol-based White Rabbit technology, providing highly accurate synchronization for critical sectors including banking, telecommunications, power grids, transportation, and digital governance. A verification test of secure time transmission between the Bengaluru laboratory and the National Stock Exchange of India's Chennai facility was completed in collaboration with India — Securities and Exchange Board of India and BSNL. The initiative is part of the government's 'One Nation, One Time' vision and its broader 'Viksit Bharat' development vision, aiming to reduce dependence on foreign timing sources such as GPS and enhance cyber resilience.
