This political alliance may influence investor sentiment regarding Nigeria's political stability and policy direction ahead of the 2027 elections. However, the direct market impact is limited as the event is primarily political.
Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria — African Democratic Congress (NDC), has chosen former Nigeria — Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso as his running mate for the 2027 Nigerian presidential election. In an interview with The Sun, Obi explained that the decision was driven by their shared philosophy of lifting Nigerians out of poverty through education and economic development. Obi dismissed speculation of a rift, stating they remain united. Both Obi and Kwankwaso finished third and fourth in the 2023 election, behind Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar. They previously formed an alliance under the Nigeria — African Democratic Congress (ADC) in 2026 before defecting to the NDC.
