The India — Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, announced the induction of 2,800 air-conditioned low-floor electric buses under Phase I of the PM e-Drive Scheme. The fleet includes 1,400 12-metre and 1,400 9-metre buses, with the latter aimed at improving last-mile connectivity on narrow roads and in rural areas. The buses will be procured through Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) via a nationwide competitive bidding process and operated by the India — Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) under a 12-year Gross Cost Contract model. The government targets rollout from April 2027 and full integration by August 2028, with an overall goal of expanding India — Delhi's public bus fleet to nearly 14,000 by 2028-29. Route rationalization will be done in collaboration with IIT India — Delhi. The initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a clean and green India and aims to reduce air pollution while enhancing sustainable public transport.
