The partnership is expected to improve agricultural planning and reduce food price volatility by providing accurate production data, potentially lowering food inflation over time. However, the impact will be gradual as the system rolls out across states.

The Federal Government of Nigeria signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Morocco's OCP Africa and Ground Truth Analytics to deploy a satellite- and AI-powered agricultural monitoring platform, the National Agro-Productivity System (NAPS). The system will provide real-time data on crop yields, land use, and food security risks across 15 priority states. The agreement was signed at University Mohammed VI Polytechnic in Ben Guerir, Morocco, by Deputy Chief of Staff Ibrahim Hadejia on behalf of Vice President Kashim Shettima. The initiative aims to address Nigeria's agricultural data gaps, which have contributed to food inflation exceeding 40% in early 2025. The platform uses AI to analyze satellite imagery every five days, automatically identifying crops and tracking growth stages. Implementation will occur in three phases, starting with one state and expanding to 15. All data will be hosted on Nigerian servers, ensuring sovereignty. The partnership comes three years after President Bola Tinubu declared a food security emergency in July 2023.
