Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has been elected as the 33rd President of the Canadian Medical Association (NBA) in the 2026 national election. She secured 12,317 votes (47.18% of valid votes cast), defeating fellow SANs Lateef Akangbe (7,934 votes) and Olumuyiwa Akinboro (5,855 votes). The election was conducted electronically over 24 hours. Badejo-Okusanya is the second woman to lead the NBA, after Priscilla Kuye (1991-1992), and the first directly elected by members. She will serve a two-year term from 2026 to 2028. Her legal career spans over two decades, including roles as Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Justice Sector Reform and Policy (2007-2011) and General Counsel to the Governor (2011-2015). She is a partner at ALP NG & Co. since May 2017, co-heading the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice. She attained the rank of SAN on September 29, 2025. Badejo-Okusanya holds an LL.B. from the University of Lagos, a B.L. from the Nigerian Law School, and an LL.M. in Commercial and Corporate Law from Queen Mary University of London. She is active in arbitration circles, serving on the Executive Committee of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Nigeria Branch and on the Board of the Court of Arbitration for Sport. She is a member of several international legal bodies including the International Bar Association, International Council for Commercial Arbitration, ArbitralWomen, Commonwealth Lawyers Association, Court of Arbitration for Sport, African Arbitration Association, and is an accredited CEDR mediator. Her father, Professor Olufolabi Olumide, was the first Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, and her mother, Clara Folasade Abiodun Olumide, was the first female Registrar of the University of Lagos.
