The upgrade adds a new demand driver for HYPE tokens through staking requirements, potentially reducing circulating supply. It positions Hyperliquid to compete with Polymarket and Kalshi in the growing prediction market sector, which saw record volumes in Q2 2026.
Hyperliquid announced on July 20, 2026, that its upcoming HIP-4 network upgrade will enable permissionless deployment of prediction markets. The feature will first launch on testnet before mainnet. Deployers must stake 500,000 HYPE tokens for six months, which can be slashed for poorly defined or incorrectly settled markets. Validators will vote on standardized outcome templates enforced on-chain. Deployers can earn up to 50% of trading fees. The upgrade builds on HIP-4, which introduced outcome markets on mainnet in May 2026. Hyperliquid's prediction markets reached $80 million daily volume by late June. The HYPE token saw a modest price increase following the announcement.
