Thailand cuts 3.8M tonnes CO2 via low-carbon cement

Thailand has achieved a significant milestone in industrial greenhouse gas mitigation, reducing more than 3.8 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent since 2019 through clinker substitution under the IPPU sector. This progress was delivered ahead of the Thailand NDC Roadmap timeline, driven by the rapid scale-up of hydraulic cement (low-carbon cement) as the primary structural cement nationwide. The achievement was recognized at the 'TCMA at 20: The Next Chapter to Net Zero' event, where Minister of Industry Varawut Silpa-archa presided over an award ceremony honoring 34 implementing partners supported by six ministries. Key figures include Varawut Silpa-archa and Surachai Nimla-or, Chairman of the Steel Manufacturers Association (TCMA). The initiative demonstrates a scalable public-private partnership model for industrial decarbonization, with potential replication across other sectors and regional collaboration.
