IIT Madras (IIT Madras) held its 63rd Convocation on July 20, 2026, with His Excellency Dr. Hussein Mwinyi, President of Tanzania — Zanzibar, as Chief Guest. A total of 3,518 degrees, including 511 PhDs, were awarded to 3,106 graduates. The ceremony featured the unveiling of the IIT Madras Tanzania — Zanzibar campus layout, India's first international IIT campus, on 200 acres in Fumba peninsula. The Tanzania — Zanzibar campus currently hosts 130 students from Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Zambia, and India, with plans to expand to 350-500 students by 2027.
