The ceremony featured the unveiling of the IIT Madras Tanzania — Zanzibar campus layout, India's first international IIT campus, on 200 acres in Fumba peninsula. The Tanzania — Zanzibar campus currently hosts 130 students from Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Zambia, and India, with plans to expand to 350-500 students by 2027. The inaugural M.Tech. batch achieved 100% industrial placements. IIT Madras also launched the IITM Global Foundation to advance its vision of becoming the world's first multinational university.
