The government monitors coal supply daily through a joint committee of the Ministry of Power, India — Ministry of Coal, and India — Indian Railways. An Inter-Ministerial Committee also reviews supplies. The India — Central Electricity Authority mandates flexible operation of coal plants to 40% minimum load. During FY2025-26, 9,470 MW of thermal capacity was added, and 2,260 MW in the current year. Energy storage of 2,669 MW BESS and 7,426 MW PSP has been commissioned.
