The leadership transition is unlikely to significantly impact financial markets given UNCF's non-profit status. However, the organization's strong financial position and planned continuity may reassure donors and partners.
UNCF Board Chair Milton H. Jones Jr. announced on July 20, 2026 that Dr. Michael L. Lomax, president and CEO since 2004, will conclude his tenure in June 2027. The transition follows years of succession planning. Under Lomax, UNCF raised over $4 billion, grew its endowment from $60 million to $500 million (projected $600 million before departure), and helped over 300,000 students. Lomax will lead the 2030 Strategic Plan and capital campaign toward $1 billion before retiring, then serve as consultant for one year. The board has launched a national search for his successor.
