The ruling removes legal uncertainty for Nigeria's digital lending sector, allowing the FCCPC to enforce consumer protection rules. This may increase compliance costs for lenders but improve market transparency and investor confidence.

The Nigeria — Federal High Court of Nigeria in Lagos dismissed a suit by the Wireless Application Service Providers Association of Nigeria (WASPAN) challenging the FCCPC's authority to issue and enforce the Digital, Electronic, Online or Non-Traditional Consumer Lending Regulations, 2025 (DEON Regulations). The court upheld the validity of the regulations and discharged an interim order that had blocked enforcement since April 2026. The FCCPC has resumed full implementation of the regulations, which aim to promote responsible lending, curb exploitative practices, and strengthen consumer protection in Nigeria's digital lending market.
