The investment enhances DP World's sustainability profile and operational efficiency, potentially improving its competitive position in the Black Sea region. The EBRD's involvement signals confidence in green port infrastructure, which may attract further investment in similar projects.
DP World and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) signed a €25 million green loan agreement to electrify operations at DP World's Romania — Constanța South Container Terminal in Romania. The loan is part of a €100 million investment program that includes grants from the European Union (€19.7 million) and the Romanian government (€7.5 million). The project will replace diesel equipment with electric alternatives, install shore power for vessels, and reduce CO₂ emissions by over 6,000 tonnes per year. This is the terminal's first dedicated green loan and supports DP World's decarbonization strategy, strengthening Romania — Constanța's position as a green container hub on the Black Sea.
