Bangladesh CNG station shutdown threat

The Bangladesh CNG Filling Station and Conversion Workshop Owners Association has announced a nationwide shutdown of CNG filling stations on July 30, 2026, from 6am to midnight, and threatens an indefinite shutdown from August 23 if demands are not met. The association demands an increase in the CNG sales commission from Tk8 to Tk13.96 per cubic metre, automatic commission adjustments with future gas price hikes, cessation of additional security deposits from existing customers, and reduction of lease and license fees. The commission has remained unchanged since September 1, 2015, despite rising inflation, electricity tariffs, and operating costs. The association has submitted letters to the United States — Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the South Korea — Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources but received no response. A 12-member steering committee was formed to oversee the movement.
