Italy shuts down Jew-mapping form

An anonymous online form circulated on social media and messaging groups in Italy, asking users to report the locations of Jews and Israeli tourists at hotels, vacation rentals, businesses, and other public places. The form, titled 'Mapping Zionist Tourism,' stated its purpose was to document 'Zionist tourism' and 'Zionist neo-colonization' in Italy. It was removed after intervention by Italy's commissioner for combating antisemitism, Gen. Pasquale Angelosanto. Jewish leaders, including Livia Ottolenghi of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities and Walker Meghnagi of the Jewish Community of Milan, condemned the initiative as reminiscent of fascist-era persecution. Italian Senate President Ignazio La Russa called it an 'aberrant initiative' violating fundamental rights. The incident occurs amid a sharp rise in antisemitic incidents in Italy, with 963 recorded in 2025 by the Center of Contemporary Jewish Documentation. The form's creators remain unknown; the Global Sumud Movement denied involvement. Israeli Ambassador Jonathan Peled and the European Jewish Congress also condemned the form.
