Codex adopts baker's yeast standard
Analysis based on 8 articles · First reported Jul 21, 2026 · Last updated Jul 21, 2026
The adoption of the Codex standard for baker's yeast is expected to facilitate international trade and reduce regulatory barriers for yeast producers, benefiting companies like Angel Yeast. The standard may also enhance consumer confidence and open new markets, but the direct financial impact is likely modest given the niche nature of the product.
The 49th session of the Codex Alimentarius (CAC49), held in Geneva, Switzerland from July 6 to 10, 2026, adopted the Codex Standard for Baker's Yeast, proposed by China. This is the first internationally recognized Codex standard for baker's yeast products, filling a gap in international food standards. The standard was jointly proposed in 2021 by Angel Yeast (SSE: 600298) and the China National Research Institute of Food and Fermentation Industries (CNRIFFI). China served as Chair of the drafting process, with France and Turkey as Vice-Chairs. Angel Yeast played a key role in the standard-setting process, contributing technical expertise. The standard establishes a harmonized framework for production, trade, and regulatory oversight of baker's yeast worldwide, promoting fair trade and consumer protection.
