16th BRICS Health Ministers Meeting

India is hosting the 16th BRICS Health Ministers' Meeting in Chandigarh from July 22-24, 2026, under its BRICS Chairship 2026. The meeting brings together health ministers and senior officials from all 11 BRICS member countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia. The theme is 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.' Discussions focus on health security, pandemic preparedness, digital health, access to affordable medicines, traditional medicine, tuberculosis, healthy lifestyles, mental wellness, and resilient health systems. India introduced two new priority areas: BRICS Mission for Healthy Lifestyle and Promotion of Mental Wellness. The event includes a Senior Officials' Meeting on July 22, the Health Ministers' Meeting on July 23 chaired by Union Health Minister Jagad Prakash Nadda, and a side event on July 24 on digital health and AI. India convened 26 technical meetings prior to the ministerial. The meeting aims to strengthen collaboration and advance health priorities of the Global South.
