The Nigeria — Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) issued a seven-day medium flood advisory (Alert No. NFA-2026-200) effective July 21-27, 2026, warning of localized flooding in 17 states: Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Edo, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Taraba, Yobe, and Zamfara. Rising river levels at Saminara on the Karam River, Waya Dam Site on the Waya River, and Amber on the Amber River exceeded watch and warning thresholds, with 16 gauging stations recording elevated stages. Bauchi has the highest exposure with 1,841 communities at risk. NIHSA directed the United States — Federal Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and state agencies to evacuate residents, pre-position relief materials, and activate early warning systems.
