The settlement removes uncertainty around B9 Beverages' leadership and debt, allowing a recapitalization that may stabilize the company. However, the brand's reputation and market position have been damaged, and the craft beer market in India faces a setback.
Ankur Jain, founder of B9 Beverages (Bira 91), has stepped down from the board and relinquished all executive powers and ownership as part of a settlement with institutional investors and lenders. The agreement ends a two-year dispute over the company's financial struggles. B9 Beverages faces a severe liquidity crunch with debt of approximately ₹1,000 crore and suspended production. Existing investors, including Peak XV Partners, Kirin Company, Anicut Capital, Hero Corporate Services, and Sofina Ventures S.A., will recapitalize the company and aim to resume operations within 3-6 months. Legal proceedings between parties have been dropped. Jain apologized to employees for delayed salaries.
