On July 22, 2026, the Chinese PLA Navy hospital ship Auspicious Ark departed from Qingdao, Shandong Province, for Mission Harmony-2026, a humanitarian medical service mission to Africa and South Asia. This is the 12th iteration of Mission Harmony since 2010, scheduled to last over 200 days. The ship will visit multiple African and South Asian countries to provide free medical services, and the crew will engage in cultural exchanges. The mission aims to enhance traditional friendship and pragmatic cooperation, provide public security products, implement the Global Security Initiative, and contribute to a maritime community with a shared future, according to China's Ministry of National Defense. Auspicious Ark, commissioned in 2025, is China's third domestically designed and constructed 10,000-tonne-class ocean-going hospital ship, equipped with 18 clinical departments, five auxiliary diagnostic units, and eight operating rooms. The medical team of over 100 personnel is primarily from the PLA Northern Theater Command Navy, with members from Naval Medical University and other units. Previous missions were carried out by Chinese hospital ship Daishan Dao (first 10) and Silk Road (11th).
