Revolut, the global financial services platform serving over 75 million customers, has been awarded a full Authorised Deposit-taking Institution (ADI) licence by the Australia — Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA), becoming the first global fintech to hold an unrestricted ADI licence in Australia. The approval launches Revolut Bank Australia, its first banking entity in the Asia-Pacific region, and allows it to offer savings accounts, credit cards, and loans alongside its existing foreign exchange and multi-currency card services. Revolut has committed to invest nearly AUD 400 million ($280 million) in Australia over five years to support product innovation, growth, and hiring. Existing customers will be automatically migrated to the licensed bank, and new customers will be onboarded directly. Deposits are protected up to AUD 250,000 under the Financial Claims Scheme. Revolut now holds full banking licences in the UK, EEA, Mexico, and Australia, and is pursuing licences in France and the US. The move intensifies competition with Australia's Big Four banks (Commonwealth Bank, NAB, ANZ, Westpac) and other challengers like Macquarie Group.
