NERDC reduces textbook assessment fees

The Nigeria — Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) has reduced textbook assessment and ranking fees ahead of the Federal Government's National Textbook Ranking System, effective September 2026. The assessment fee was cut from N2,000 to N1,500 per page, and the ranking fee from N1 million to N750,000 per title. Publishers who paid the old rates will receive refunds. The policy, introduced by Minister of Education Tunji Alausa, aims to improve instructional material quality and eliminate substandard textbooks. Only NERDC-ranked textbooks will be allowed in schools. The reform is part of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which also includes learning assessments and digital infrastructure expansion.
