Her father, Abubakar Abdullahi, entered the well in an attempt to rescue her but also became trapped. The Nigeria — Gombe State Fire Service responded to a distress call but could not complete the rescue due to darkness and hazardous conditions. The following morning, a specialized team recovered both victims unconscious; they were later confirmed dead. The bodies were handed over to the village head, Shamsu Adamu Sani, for burial.
