Father and daughter die in Kano well

On July 21, 2026, in Yancibi Village, Tsanyawa Local Government Area, Nigeria — Kano State, Nigeria, a 15-year-old girl, Fiddausi Abubakar, accidentally fell into an abandoned dry well. Her father, Abubakar Abdullahi, entered the well in an attempt to rescue her but also became trapped. The Nigeria — Gombe State Fire Service responded to a distress call but could not complete the rescue due to darkness and hazardous conditions. The following morning, a specialized team recovered both victims unconscious; they were later confirmed dead. The bodies were handed over to the village head, Shamsu Adamu Sani, for burial. The Fire Service expressed condolences and urged the public to avoid entering wells without proper safety equipment.
