The House of Representatives of Nigeria has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the Nigeria — Mining Marshals, a specialized security unit established in March 2024 to combat illegal mining. The probe follows allegations of financial impropriety, including reports that over N2 billion was found in the bank account of a former State Commander of the unit. Lawmakers also raised concerns about operational abuses, lack of fiscal transparency, and deviation from the unit's mandate. The House Committee on Solid Minerals Development has been given four weeks to report its findings.
