Cyclosporiasis outbreak in Shelby County

United States — Polk County Health Department and United States — Tennessee Department of Health are investigating a cyclosporiasis outbreak. As of July 22, 11 confirmed cases were reported among United States — Shelby County residents, with four linked to international travel, six to travel outside the county, and one under investigation. By late July, the count rose to 15 cases. The outbreak is part of a larger national cyclosporiasis outbreak, with over 4,000 cases reported nationwide by mid-July. The FDA has linked the potential cause to lettuce from Taylor Farms, leading Yum! Brands — Taco Bell to remove lettuce from that supplier. Several shredded and bagged iceberg lettuce products, including those from Taylor Farms, have been recalled. Health officials advise washing produce and following FDA recall notices.
