Coinbase, the Nasdaq-listed cryptocurrency exchange, announced plans to increase its Singapore headcount from about 150 to 200 employees by the end of 2026. The hiring will focus on engineering, customer service, relationship management, and institutional sales. The company also opened a new office at One Raffles Quay on July 22. This expansion contrasts with a 14% global workforce cut announced in May 2024, as Coinbase seeks to manage costs and focus on AI. Country director Ahmed Hassan cited Singapore's clear regulatory framework, business-friendly environment, and growing adoption of crypto and stablecoins as key factors. Coinbase received a Major Payment Institution license from the Singapore — Monetary Authority of Singapore in October 2023 and supports the Singapore dollar-backed stablecoin XSGD in partnership with StraitsX USD. The company is also exploring AI integration, including stablecoin wallets for AI agents.
