Analysis based on 7 articles · First reported Jul 23, 2026 · Last updated Jul 23, 2026
The index signals that India's real estate sector is stabilizing after a sharp decline, with future sentiment neutral. This may reassure investors about the sector's resilience, though persistent global headwinds keep current sentiment subdued.
The 49th edition of the Knight Frank-National Real Estate Development Council Real Estate Sentiment Index for Q2 2026 (April-June) shows the Future Sentiment Score holding steady at 50, indicating that the sharp deterioration in Q1 2026 has leveled off. The Current Sentiment Score softened marginally to 48 from 49, remaining in the pessimistic zone. Developer sentiment remained flat at 51, while non-developer stakeholders (banks, financial institutions, private equity investors) saw improvement to 53. External pressures such as geopolitical tensions, volatile energy prices, and persistent inflation continue to weigh on short-term confidence, but sustained occupier demand in commercial office space and India's resilient domestic economy are supporting stabilization. Regionally, the North Zone recovered to 52, West Zone at 50, while South and East remain cautious. Housing sales rose 1% year-on-year in H1 2026, and commercial office transactions reached 48 million square feet, down 2% against a high base. Funding conditions remain broadly steady, with 50% of respondents expecting capital availability unchanged.
