The programme is expected to improve the accuracy and reliability of UAE economic data, boosting investor confidence and supporting informed policy decisions. By better capturing non-oil sector growth, it may enhance the UAE's attractiveness to foreign investment and strengthen its position in global economic rankings.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, approved the National Programme for Developing the Statistics System in the UAE. The initiative aims to modernize the country's economic data framework by adopting 2024 as the unified base year for national accounts and reconstructing GDP time series from 2010 to 2026. It integrates tax and administrative data to better reflect the growth of non-oil sectors, digital economy, technology, and investment activities. The programme is led by the United Arab Emirates — Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Centre in partnership with local statistics centers and federal entities including the Central Bank of the UAE, Ministry of Finance, Federal Tax Authority, United Arab Emirates — Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, United Arab Emirates — Emirates Investment Authority, and United Arab Emirates — Etihad Water and Electricity. The initiative aligns with UN System of National Accounts standards and aims to enhance economic decision-making, investor confidence, and the UAE's global competitiveness.
