NAT ships freed, attacked in Black Sea
Analysis based on 6 articles · First reported Jul 23, 2026 · Last updated Jul 23, 2026
The successful freeing of trapped vessels and continued high shipping rates are positive for NAT's operations. However, the Black Sea attack highlights ongoing geopolitical risks in key shipping lanes.
Nordic American Tankers (NAT) reported that three of its ships were trapped in the Persian Gulf since February 28, 2026, but have since been freed and are trading worldwide. Additionally, one NAT ship was attacked in the Black Sea a few days ago, suffering minor damage with the crew safe; the vessel has left the area. The company notes a scarcity of ships and high rates for suezmaxes, expecting this to continue for one to two years. NAT does not trade in the Red Sea and reports no significant insurance issues from the incidents.
