The appointment is a routine executive change with limited immediate market impact. It signals continuity in VERAXA's strategic direction for its BiTAC platform, which may support investor confidence in the company's pipeline.
VERAXA Biotech AG AG (Nasdaq: VRXA) announced the appointment of Christoph Erkel, Ph.D., as Chief Scientific Officer (CSO), effective July 23, 2026. Erkel, previously Vice President of R&D at VERAXA, will lead development of the company's proprietary BiTAC platform technologies for cancer therapies targeting solid tumors. He succeeds Austin Awua, Ph.D., who is leaving after a transition period. Erkel brings 20 years of experience in antibody therapeutics, including prior roles at MorphoSys AG (acquired by Novartis) and Sloning BioTechnology GmbH. Oliver R. Baumann, Chairman of the Board, thanked Austin for his contributions and expressed confidence in Erkel. VERAXA was founded based on research from the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL).
