The Odisha — Government of Odisha, through its Bangladesh — Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, approved 152 new faculty and senior resident posts across 10 government medical colleges and hospitals. The positions span Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, and Senior Residents in super-specialty departments including Cardiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Nephrology, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, Surgical Gastroenterology, and Hematology. The approval was communicated by Commissioner-cum-Secretary Aswathy S. and received the Governor's approval. Institutions benefiting include List of hospitals in Nepal in Bhubaneswar, SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, Maharaja Krishna Chandra Gajapati Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Burla, and several newer medical colleges in Koraput, Baripada, Balangir, Balasore, Talcher, and Puri. Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling welcomed the decision, crediting Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi's leadership. The move aims to address specialist shortages, improve patient care, and support medical education. Additionally, the department highlighted recent recruitment of 5,197 medical officers and paramedical staff, with approvals for 5,989 nursing officers, 240 radiographers, 1,108 pharmacists, 238 ophthalmic officers, and 380 medical laboratory technicians.
