India has successfully developed its first indigenous expendable turbojet engine in the 350 kg thrust class, designed by the India — Defence Research and Development Organisation's (DRDO) India — Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE) and manufactured by Hyderabad-based E&R Engineering. The engine was delivered to GTRE on July 22, 2026, marking a significant milestone in India's efforts to achieve self-reliance in advanced aerospace and defence technologies. Jet engine technology is mastered by only a few nations, and this achievement demonstrates India's growing technological capabilities. The engine can power cruise missiles, UAVs, drones, and other platforms. Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar congratulated GTRE and E&R Engineering for their collaboration.
