Researchers at ETH Zurich, led by Taras Gerya, published a study in Nature Geoscience showing that Venus may be geologically active, with rift valleys forming recently. Using high-resolution 3D simulations, they found rift flanks form when rifts are young and flatten quickly after movement stops, matching Ferdinand Magellan radar data. The findings suggest Venus's interior is more dynamic than previously thought and could guide future missions like International — European Space Agency's EnVision, scheduled for the early 2030s, and United States — NASA's planned missions.
