NSE launches Indian Natural Gas Futures

The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) will launch India's first exchange-traded energy derivative linked to a domestic benchmark on July 27, 2026, with the introduction of Indian Natural Gas Futures. The cash-settled contract, trading under the symbol NATGASIND, is based on the Indian Gas Exchange's Gujarat (Dahej) hub price, quoted in rupees per mmBtu. The India — Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) approved the launch. National Stock Exchange of India — National Stock Exchange of India will provide clearing and settlement services. The contract aims to enable transparent, India-centric price discovery and provide a hedging tool for market participants. This marks NSE's entry into domestically benchmarked energy derivatives, supporting India's goal to increase natural gas' share in its energy mix from 6% to 15%.
