CS PowerTech opens Indiana solar cell plant

Canadian Solar — CS PowerTech Inc., a subsidiary of Canadian Solar Inc., has inaugurated the first phase of its photovoltaic cell manufacturing facility at the United States — River Ridge Commerce Center in United States — Jeffersonville, Indiana. The plant is the first in the U.S. designed to produce heterojunction (HJT) bifacial N-type solar cells. At full capacity, it is expected to achieve an annual production capacity of over 6 GWp and support more than 1,200 jobs, representing nearly $1 billion in local investment. The facility will supply cells to Canadian Solar — CS PowerTech's module manufacturing plant in United States — Mesquite, Texas, creating a vertically integrated supply chain. Phase two expansion is planned before the end of the year. State and local officials, including Indiana Governor Mike Braun, welcomed the investment as a boost to advanced manufacturing and clean energy technology.
