Oyo NEWMAP-EIB project delay

Residents of flood-prone communities in Nigeria — Oyo State, Nigeria, have expressed frustration over the prolonged delay in the commencement of the Nigeria Climate Adaptation-Erosion and Watershed Project (NEWMAP-EIB), funded by the European Investment Bank. During an inspection tour led by Commissioner for Environment Ademola Aderinto, residents reported that repeated flash floods have worsened, threatening homes, roads, businesses, and farmlands. Aderinto assured that the Nigeria — Oyo State Government, under Governor Seyi Makinde, has fulfilled all conditions for the project, including counterpart funding and safeguard requirements, and pledged to relay the urgency to the Federal Government. The project aims to address erosion, improve stormwater management, reduce flooding, and strengthen climate resilience in vulnerable communities across Nigeria — Oyo State, including areas in Nigeria — Oyo West, Nigeria — Atiba, Nigeria — Oluyole, Nigeria — Olorunsogo, Nigeria — Ibarapa East, Nigeria — Ogbomosho, and Nigeria — Ibadan.
