ICE shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo

On July 7, 2026, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, an undocumented immigrant who had lived in the U.S. for 35 years and ran a homebuilding business, was shot and killed by United States — United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in United States — Houston, Texas. The officers chased his work van and shot him through the window in front of his crew, including his brother. The Department of Homeland Security claimed Salgado Araujo rammed his van into immigration vehicles and attempted to run over an officer, but passengers disputed this, stating officers crashed into the van and were never in danger. On July 24, 2026, Salgado Araujo's sons, Lorenzo Jr. and Ronaldo, testified at a congressional hearing held by the United States — Congressional Hispanic Caucus, demanding a transparent investigation. Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare stated that DHS ignored his requests for information. The officer involved was not wearing a body camera. The sons also mourned Killing of Joan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, shot in Maine days later.
