Nigeria envoy assumes office in India

Nigeria's High Commissioner-designate to India, Ambassador Saidu Dahiru Muhammad, arrived in New Delhi on July 23, 2026, and formally assumed office on July 24, 2026. He was received at the airport by officials of the Nigerian High Commission, representatives of India's Ministry of External Affairs, members of the Nigerian community, and several African heads of mission. In his inaugural address, Muhammad pledged an inclusive leadership style and vowed to strengthen diplomatic, trade, and investment relations between Nigeria and India, with a focus on improving Nigeria's trade balance. He recalled his long association with India, having visited eight times over 19 years. Hillary Okeke, President of the All India Students Association, welcomed the envoy on behalf of the Nigerian community. Muhammad also quoted former President Muhammadu Buhari, whom he described as a mentor.
