HD Hyundai, a shipbuilding subsidiary of HD Hyundai, signed a contract with HMM (company) — Washington United Terminals (WUT), a U.S. subsidiary of HMM, to supply four port cranes for the United States — Port of Tacoma. The order is part of a terminal modernization project to replace aging cranes and expand capacity for larger vessels. HD Hyundai will handle design, manufacturing, transportation, installation, and commissioning on a turnkey basis, with delivery by 2028. The cranes will use steel from POSCO. This marks HD Hyundai's entry into the U.S. port crane market under the MASGA (Make American Shipbuilding Great Again) initiative, a Korea-U.S. shipbuilding cooperation project. The order reflects HD Hyundai's expertise and customer trust, having supplied 20 port cranes to U.S. ports since 1985. The U.S. government's focus on port supply chain resilience is expected to further expand such cooperation. HD Hyundai Chairman Chung Kisun previously met with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer to discuss shipbuilding cooperation.
