Kargil Vijay Diwas 27th anniversary

On July 26, 2026, India observed the 27th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, commemorating its victory in the 1999 Kargil War against Pakistan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the India — Indian Armed Forces on social media, praising their courage and sacrifice. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, speaking at a Shaurya Bhoj event in Dras, warned that the intent of infiltrators has not changed and that the Indian Army remains prepared. Home Minister Amit Shah and opposition leader Rahul Gandhi also paid tribute. The Kargil War, fought from May to July 1999, was the only conventional war between two nuclear-armed neighbors, resulting in 527 Indian casualties. India's Operation Vijay successfully recaptured occupied peaks without crossing the Line of Control.
